Tomorrow on wheels

Our Tomorrow on Wheels van traveled 8490 kilometers (5275 miles) from April to June. That's roughly the distance between Brussels and San Francisco – but the van never actually left Belgium, instead it visited many official dealers of the Volkswagen Group. Our mobile training center offered the dealers brief on-site training sessions. The 'classroom on wheels' concept was a huge success.

On the road

The weCare maintenance contract has been around for 20 years. To mark this milestone anniversary, it received a new, digitalized makeover. Volkswagen D'Ieteren Finance and Realdolmen joined forces to get the staff acquainted with the new features. They developed 'weCare On The Road' together, a training program for official dealers provided by a mobile training center: the Realdolmen Tomorrow on Wheels van. Realdolmen worked with Microsoft to convert a Volkswagen Crafter into a demo room on wheels to familiarize people with the latest technologies.

Each session lasted about half an hour and addressed both technical and soft skills. The Surface Hub was used to develop live demos with the participants, which allowed them to experience the new tool for themselves. After the training session, everyone received a One Pager that summarized all the content provided.

The van was parked in the parking lot of the official dealer, plugged in and opened up to participants. "Each session included time for participants to learn about the van. The concept was new to many participants and they were pleasantly surprised," explains ICT Trainer Nils Vanbever. Nils and ICT Trainer Bjorn Van Cotthem took turns traveling around Belgium in the Tomorrow on Wheels van. "People were highly motivated at all the sessions. They appreciated that the fact we came to them. They didn't have to travel to a classroom and lose any time unnecessarily. The van and its welcoming interior was an extra incentive to pay attention. Nobody had to sit in a stuffy room staring at a slideshow. Everyone was close to the teacher and could actively participate with the Surface Hub."

"I thought it was great to experience the van's first big project myself. The mileage just kept going up and up. The van also stands out on the road. I was surprised how many Realdolmen people I saw on my travels. Bystanders often asked what we were doing. The concept intrigued a lot of people. I spent a lot of time alone on the road, but the unexpected encounters and the enthusiastic faces of the participants as they boarded the van more than made up for that."

The Realdolmen Tomorrow on Wheels van was a huge success! The Sales and After Sales staff of the official dealers did not need to travel, which resulted in more motivation and involvement!
